I received a post from person on our advanced leadership forum asking what questions he should ask while at a search committee interview for a new church position as lead pastor. Here is what I said,
1. What their vision was for their church
2. How many pastors they have had the last 20 years
3. Why last pastor left
4. What do they think a pastor should do
5. How much freedom would I have with worship
6. I would ask how they make decisions in the church
7. Tell me about the quality of your worship like has their been or is there presently any conflict
8. Who do they love the most their church or the lost in the community
9. How willing are they to do whatever is necessary to reach their community for Christ including spending money.
Of course they may then turn you down but at least you know where you stand
